Holiday Jar Of Memories

Creating a Holiday Jar
Did you do the Gratitude Jar for Thanksgiving?  We did, and had a lot of fun reading them aloud after dinner.  This is a holiday-twist on that same idea.  The only supplies you need are an old jar, some paper, and a little creativity (you've got that, right?!). Your jar can be festively decorated or just a simple ribbon.  I am letting my boys decorate the jar!  But what you do with the outside of the jar is far less important than what you do to fill your jar. Tucked away inside your jar will be fun activities you can do as a family that lead up to Christmas morning. Written on little slips of paper, draw one slip each morning and have some fun.

Here are some of my favorite activities to include:

  • Go see the Christmas lights in the neighborhoods in your pajamas. (We do this one every year - don't forget the hot cocoa!)
  • Pop popcorn and play board games together, while listening to holiday music.
  • Get together with your ENTIRE family and do holiday baking.  (It has been our tradition for YEARS)
  • Go to the library and pick out books about Christmas. Read them together.
  • Give the kids a bath while Christmas carols blare into the bathroom. See who can sing the loudest. (In our house, that would be Zach!)
  • Go Christmas caroling.  I remember doing this as a kid.  I am blessed to live in a community where people still do this - me & the kids will be going in a few weeks with a bunch of families from their elementary school.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to make really wonderful memories for your children
