Dear Readers,

We need to talk.  I'm gonna take just a few minutes here to vent.  You're OK with that, right?  If not, skip to the next post.
I'm confused.  You guys like FREE Stuff, right? I thought everyone did, but now I'm starting to wonder.  I had TWO giveaways this week - one was for a FREE 8x8 hardcover photo book with free shipping, and the other was for a Milk Prize Pack.  I posted about the giveaways nearly every day - reminding you to enter by simply sending me an email.  Do you know how many entries I had?  ONE.  My Mom.  Seriously.
This is kinda silly, but I'm a little hurt.  Crazy, right?  I should just get over it.  Send the free stuff to my Mom and move on.  But this really has me wondering if I'm just wasting my time here.  Because I've been at this bloggin' thing every day for well over a year.  I've logged thousands and thousands of posts, and spend hours every day searching for deals, coupons, interesting recipes and more to share with you.  It takes time away from my family, and other responsibilities.  I've been doing it because 1) I genuinely have been enjoying it, and 2) I thought it was an investment in the future.  That slowly this thing would build, and that at some point I'd have at least a part-time income coming in doing something that I liked doing anyway.
But things are not going as planned.  Still, I've plugged away.  Wanna know how much actual money I've made off this blog over the more than a year blogging daily?  About $250.  Pitiful, right?  Ugh.
I don't even know why I'm writing this, except that maybe it will make me feel a little bit better.  What am I missing?  I'd be real curious to see what specifically you are getting out of the blog.  I would REALLY appreciate if you would send me an email at brendalpark@gmail.com and just answer a few questions for me.  Think of it as a personal favor:

  • Have you ever purchased anything from one of the links?
  • What are you reading on the blog?
  • What interests you the most - is it the coupons, the recipes, the daily deals.  Why do you come here?
  • Do you read the blog daily, or just once in a while?
  • Do you read other blogs besides this one and would you miss it if Brenda Writes A Blog went bye-bye?
Maybe I'm just having a bad day.  But I'm seriously questioning whether this is something I should continue.  Maybe I need to focus on getting a real part-time job.  Maybe I should just hang out and eat bon-bons all day while the kids are in school (yeah, right!).  At this point, I feel like I'm putting a whole lot of effort, and love into this thing and not getting much in return.  And, no, I'm not necessarily talking about money.  I'm talking about a little comment here and there.  Tell me that I saved you some money.  Tell me about some great deal you found.  Right now it's all one-sided, and that's gettin' real old, real fast.

  1. Hi Brenda,
I look at your blog everyday~ I skim through to find deals that interest me. You've saved me a lot of money in the last year since I discovered you!! I also forward your deals to friends. I appreciate you taking the time to post. I saw the book and wanted to enter but know myself well...it takes me so much time to create one of those books, go thru photo's, try to think of witty captions and I get overwhelmed and then miss my deadline date. Saw the Milk one too, but I don't drink milk, more of a Almond or Soy Milk kinda gal. I only visit your blog and one other (OneFrugalChick). In fact I just tried to score some cute boots from Kohls and by the time I checked out they were out of stock! Anyhoo~ I have made some of your delicious recipes as well.
    I don't know how many followers you have and $250 isn't a lot of money ; (
I don't want you to leave but you have to follow your gut...if you close one door another will open ; )

    Thank you,

    Wendy

  2. Hi Brenda, I also want to comment about your Blog, you have saved us a bunch of money!!! We ( my wife and I) check your blog almost every day, we also have kids in Elementary and have used lots of groupon's deals, enjoy your Bento pictures, now we are sending healthy snacks to school. Personally, I don't print coupons unless they are for some product that we are using like Hormel products. We have shared your blog to family members, friends and teachers in our schools. I didn't notice your giveaways, and I don't participate that much because I usually don't win anything, but in the other hand, I just received that mind game you post several weeks ago.

    Thank you,

    Juan

  3. Brenda, I am so sorry about your disappointment. After I read your "venting" I thought to myself, I did not remember any contests or giveaways. Then I went back this evening and yes I did see them but they just did not pop out at me. I read your posts every day, I scan over them first and see if there is anything that interest me, then I go back over it again. I have used many links to save money, Groupon, paper Coiterie, Bebe Bella, Graveyard Mall, not as many coupons just because my time is at a premium and I have not been utilize them like I should, shame on me :(. Maybe if you placed the giveaways up closer to the top. Of course you want everyone to read everything so I understand your placing. I will certainly pay more attention from now on. Another thing, I receive your emails late in the evening after I have shut down my computers so when I finally get to read them the next day, I have so many left to read.
